Many fears begin during toddlerhood: fear of animals, new surroundings, loud machines, monsters, fire, and being separated from their moms.
As toddlers learn to walk, talk, and explore, they become increasingly aware of how small and vulnerable they are. This fear isn't all that bad, however. It can prevent a toddler from taking unnecessary risks. It is also indicative of a child's cognitive development-discerning the difference between what is known and what is not.
You can help your toddler deal with his fears by discussing what is real and what is pretend. Your child will outgrow his fears if you deal with them in a relaxed and reassuring way.
